What I got wrong about automation for 2 years

The argument.

For two years I automated the parts that were easy to describe: the sending, the copying, the filing. The work did not get lighter, because the slow part was never the typing.

The change was to write down the decision first: what someone chooses, on what basis, and what happens either way. Automate that and the tasks around it mostly disappear.
